Catastrophic Fire Days

In the event of a Catastrophic Fire Danger Warning, Council’s waste collection services will be suspended in the higher fire risk areas. The affected areas are highlighted on the map below.

Once the fire danger rating has been downgraded, Council and East Waste will return to service the bins in the affected areas as soon as appropriate. Bins should remain out on the verge until collected.

If there are a number of Catastrophic Fire Danger rating days forecast, Council and East Waste will assess the lowest risk time to collect waste.

Extreme Fire Risk Days

In the event of an Extreme Fire Danger Warning, Council’s waste collection services may continue ‘business as usual’ in the higher risk areas, however the decision to continue services will be subject to the completion of an Operational Risk Assessment undertaken by Council on the evening prior to the declared Extreme Fire Danger day.

Any decision to suspend or amend waste collection services on Extreme Fire Warning days will be communicated to residents via Council’s website and social media pages.

Please continue to visit Council’s website and social media pages for further updates. Alternatively contact Council on 8372 8888 or mitcham@mitchamcouncil.sa.gov.au
